Data Science Engineer (100%)
The ideal candidate will act as an enabler of data science activities within the research community from the ETH domains, Swiss universities, and the industry. In this role, you will liaise with data providers, data scientists, domain scientists, and industry partners to understand their goals, gather requirements, implement the solutions, and ensure the knowledge transfer between the stakeholders. Main duties and responsibilities include: gathering requirements; designing, developing, and setting up (big) data-science solutions in industrial and academic environments, using state-of-the-art frameworks; prepare tutorials, presentations, blogs, and publications, about data-science technologies; provide trainings and promote the technologies and services offered by the SDSC. You have a bachelor’s degree (MSc or higher preferred) in computer science or a related discipline (e.g., bioinformatics, physics, or electrical engineering), a proven track record of crafting innovative and elegant software solutions, and a good command of the Python programming language. Familiarity with another programming language, especially R, is a plus. Further, you should have previous experience applying machine learning and (big) data analytics frameworks, such as TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, or the Apache Hadoop ecosystem, to real world problems. You should be familiar with software development best practices, such as agile software development and CI/CD, and tools like git as well. Beyond that, you are well versed in the Linux operating system. Experience with cloud technology and containerization solutions, like Docker or Kubernetes, are highly desirable. You must be able to work well in a cross-functional environment and excel in communicating with your peers. You should be prepared to explore and learn novel technologies and put them to practice in uncharted territories. Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written, is a requirement; good working knowledge of French or German would be a plus.
