The Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) is operated by ETH Zurich and is located in Lugano, Switzerland. CSCS develops and provides the key supercomputing capabilities required to solve important problems to science and/or society. CSCS manages High Performance Computing (HPC) systems and a multi-petabyte high-performance storage infrastructure to provide services to the Swiss scientific community and to PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe. In addition, it operates systems tailored for particular customers such as MeteoSwiss for numerical weather forecasts or the Swiss Institute for Particle Physics (CHIPP) to analyze data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiment at CERN in Geneva. EU Projects liason and Project Manager (Lugano)
The HPC Operations unit is comprised of three groups managing Compute Services, Data and Network Services, and Infrastructure and Development Services. In addition to internal project work and daily operational tasks the Unit has an active role in several EU projects and bodies including the Human Brain Project (HBP) and its complementary Interactive Computing e-Infrastructure (ICEI) Project along with several other EU projects such as the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) or the Centre of Excellence in Simulation of Weather and Climate in Europe (EsiWACE). Your tasks will include working with the HPC Operations unit lead on the daily management and coordination of the Unit’s commitments to these various EU projects. You will also interface with the Research Collaboration Coordinator reporting to the Deputy Director. You will help set priorities, assign work plans, develop and enforce IT policies and interact closely with the staff of the various partner organisations. The compilation of written reports and the management of activities relating to external EU projects (milestones, deliverables etc) will also be part of your mandate as well as participating in various project meetings. Given that EU projects have regular face-to-face meetings distributed throughout Europe, the position will require that you travel quite frequently within Europe.
You are expected to have a proven track record in involvement with EU projects, with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in such activities. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar field is desirable as is knowledge of the research landscape in an HPC environment. You should have experience and knowledge of the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach to infrastructure service delivery as well as the foundation concepts for the building of federated infrastructure. You can write complex reports in English and have project management experience (both traditional and Agile methodologies) and team leadership experience, since you will be expected to help manage cross-cutting teams contributing to the various internal and external projects.
The ideal candidate has experience in coodinating small- to medium-sized teams in a dynamic environment. Your work style is solution focused and people oriented, with the ability to delegate and coordinate activities across a wider team of technical experts. You feel comfortable working in a vibrant environment, accept new challenges and help develop creative technical and organizational solutions to provide innovative services for the scientific community.

You will work in an international environment in the heart of Lugano, Switzerland. The official working language is English; knowledge of Italian, German or French is an advantage. CSCS supports and promotes a gender-diverse work environment.
