The Laboratory for High Power Electronic Systems (HPE) at the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering performs international leading research on high power converter systems required for example in future energy distribution systems for renewable energy sources or in traction applications. A further research focus is on solid state pulse modulator systems for medical applications or accelerators. For a research project, we are recruiting an:
Engineer for commissioning a modular power electronic converter system including control
(100% / temporary for 1 year)
We are looking for highly motivated individuals interested in commissioning a prototype system of a newly developed concept for a power electronic converter. The system is based on a modular approach and each module consists of an PFC rectifier and an isolated DC-DC converter. The output power of a module is 10kW and it is controlled by an FPGA platform based on the Altera Cyclone V device. The basic design of the converter system is ready and in a next step, you should put the different converter parts into operation, test their functionality separately and finally operate several series connected modules together. This also includes checking and correcting the control, which is implemented in VHDL/DSP builder.
You may expect a diversified and self-dependent temporary full-time position in a dynamic, international team at one of the world-wide leading technical universities. Furthermore, we offer a competitive salary, excellent benefits and very good measurement facilities. The duration of the appointment is 1 to 1.5 years depending on the progress of the project.
The candidate must have a diploma/M.S. degree in electrical engineering with good grades and good knowledge of power electronic converter systems. In addition, experience with prototype systems and/or with programming FPGAs in VHDL would be beneficial. For reading the documentation of the converter system, you need to be able to read and understand technical documents in English.
