Together with your supervisors at Empa and ETH Zurich, you will collaborate on the pro-ject “Structural behaviour and reliability of connections in timber structures”. The main objectives of this project are the development of system-based design concepts for timber structures, where the performance of the structure is evaluated considering the load-deformation behaviour and the reliability of its members and connections. The pro-ject comprises three modules: 1) Identification of material properties and model parame-ters relevant for the reliability of connections and structural systems, 2) numerical analysis of connections and structural systems, 3) experimental analysis of connections and structural systems. The position will be available from April 2018 or upon agreement.
Your focus will be on the behaviour of connections, alongside with another PhD student whose focus will be on the behaviour of structural systems. The work will be carried out mainly at Empa (Dübendorf), under the supervision of Dr. René Steiger and Dr. Pedro Palma. The PhD degree will be granted by ETH Zurich. The official supervisor of the PhD thesis is Prof. Dr. Andrea Frangi. The planned project duration is four years.
