Scientific Officer, with focus on Scientific Writing
Tasks of the Scientific Officer will include: 1) Coordination of large scientific projects involving multiple partners, including execution of administrative tasks; 2) correspondence with scientists and other stake holders from national and international organizations; 3) proofreading, editing and writing of scientific documents (e.g. writing scientific reports and grant applications, co-writing review articles); 4) fundraising activities and searching for new funding opportunities; 5) contribution to devising of research proposals based on research directions of the PI; 6) reading and researching scientific literature; 7) sporadic organization and execution of scientific conferences, workshops and scientific events; 8) communication tasks, including designing and updating of the website and social media sites; 9) support in tasks connected to management of intellectual property and implementation of biosafety regulations.
The successful candidate will have a PhD (doctorate) with hands-on experience in life sciences and at least two years experience in academia or the industry (as a postdoc or equivalent). Demonstrated skills in scientific writing are the most important requirement. Experience in project management, coordination, and fundraising is also essential. A background in systems biology, proteomics, protein biochemistry is useful, but not strictly required. He/she should have an independent, pragmatic, collaborative, pro-active, organized and self-motivated working style, strong communication and interpersonal skills. Flexibility and interest in team-oriented work are essential. Fluency in English, excellent English grammar skills and proficiency in Microsoft tools are also a must. Knowledge of German is helpful, but not a strict requirement. The Picotti Laboratory is located in the HPM Building at the Hönggerberg campus of ETH Zurich, a world-leading institution in research and teaching.
