Project 1: The NASA InSight mission to Mars is the first space mission to land a seismometer on the surface of Mars. This project is centred around the analysis of seismic data collected during the InSight mission. A particular focus is on studying the shallow Martian crust with seismic waves generated by a self-hammering geotechnical tool – the first active-seismic experiment on Mars. We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in data-driven research, geophysical imaging and signal processing. In addition, our group has access to high-performance computing systems owned by ETH. The Exploration and Environmental Geophysics group at ETH Zurich is embedded in a vibrant Earth Science department, which will offer many opportunities for collaborative Projects.
