The Krek Laboratory studies molecular signaling pathways regulated by oxygen and carbohydrates and the role these pathways play in normal tissue homeostasis and cancer. Our approaches involve the application of a broad range of cellular and genomic methods and the construction of mouse models of human cancers that recapitulate key characteristics of tumorigenesis. We also utilize tumor organoids and cancer cell systems to translate our findings into potential new treatments for human cancer. The Laboratory of Cell Signaling and Disease Biology (Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Krek) at the Institute of Molecular Health Sciences of ETH Zurich invites applications for a
Research Technician in Mouse Experimentation
The primary role of the Research Technician position is to contribute to the management and monitoring of the laboratory’s mouse colonies as well as performing studies involving mouse experiments. The duties relate to animal care, breeding and maintenance of mouse colonies, use of databases and the manipulation of animals according to approved experimental and institutional protocols (e.g., oral gavage, subcutaneous and intraperitoneal injections, surgery, perfusions, size, measurements of tumors, genotyping, and euthanasia). The area of research is to understand cancer metabolism and signaling pathways using mouse models, human cancer cell lines and/or tissues. In the frame of our research activities, the successful candidate will also be involved in experimentally supporting ongoing research projects through application of a variety of different molecular, biochemical, and cell biological techniques and methods (e.g., processing mouse tissues/tumors for histology, protein and RNA extraction, isolation of primary cells). He/she will also develop new tools and be involved in implementing and executing new experimental technologies. Knowledge of oral and written English is essential.
The successful candidate will have qualified experience in molecular and cellular biology. Experience and familiarity to work with mice is essential. Well-developed skills in mouse experimentation is a plus. The candidate will work in a collaborative and communicative environment with approx. 15 laboratory members. He/she should be highly motivated and able to execute experiments in a highly-organized and precise manner. Interest in team-oriented work is essential. The Laboratory of Cell Signaling and Disease Biology is part of the Molecular Health Sciences Platform located in the HPL Building at the Hönggerberg campus of ETH Zurich, a world-leading institution in research and teaching. We offer an interesting and versatile position in an international team and modern laboratory dedicated to biomedical research and continuous education. The position is available immediately or by arrangement.
We look forward to receiving your online application including a full CV incl. certificates, short statement of experience and qualification of max one page) and names of three referees. Please note that we exclusively accept applications submitted through our online application portal. Applications via email or postal services will not be considered.
