Inspire AG, the Swiss competence center for production technology and a strategic partner of ETH Zurich for technology transfer is looking for a group leader for its advanced controls and IoT group. This research group is the newest of ten research groups within inspire AG, and has been established in 2013 in collaboration with the Automatic Control Laboratory (IfA) of ETH Zurich. It focuses on industrial research on advanced controls, machine learning, data analytics and IoT applications, aiming at combining cutting-edge theory and computational tools for solving practical challenges in the industry. Group Leader for Advanced Controls & IoT
Your tasks and responsibilities include: Management and timely execution of industrial research projects, acquisition of new industrial research projects (bilateral, or state-funded, e.g. CTI or EU/H2020 projects, SNF if applicable), preparation of corresponding funding application documents and project proposals, scientific and professional supervision of a team of 2-5 researchers (PhDs, Postdocs), budget management of the group, presentation at various industry events and annual reporting in the technical-scientific reporting of inspire and participation in industrial group meetings, e.g. in group meetings of Swissmem or the “Industrie 2025” initiative.
Inspire group leaders report directly to the CEO and COO, as well as scientifically to the lead professor in this case Prof. John Lygeros, Automatic Control Lab, ETHZ.
We are looking for an individual who is eager to establish and grow a strong controls and data science group for industrial production technologies, and who meets the following requirements: PhD in electrical or mechanical engineering or computer science, strong background in at least two of the following fields: systems & control, machine learning, data analytics, IoT / Industrie 4.0, data science.
Excellent scientific track record, industrial experience, or management of / participation in industrial research projects, is a plus. Knowledge of model-based optimal control (classical & numerical, MPC, MHE etc.) and numerical optimization techniques is a plus. Knowledge of state-of-the-art data analytics / machine learning toolkits in Python and Microsoft Azure is a plus. Experience in writing low-level C code as well as high-level languages such as C# and Python is a plus. Good communication and presentation skills and fluency in German & English.
