ETH Innovation Lab – prototyping the future of libraries –
The ETH Innovation Lab is a newly founded international hub for library-related innovation. It provides a fitting environment for innovative processes in a diverse and interdisciplinary team. The methodological framework is based on cutting-edge innovation processes, e.g. the design thinking process. Fellowships lasting three to nine months enable bright minds and great talents – thinkers and doers – to work on their projects or col-laborate on a given project at the Library Lab. ETH Library (http://www.library.ethz.ch/en), is looking for a
by October 1 2017 or by appointment, beginning with 60% with the option of increasing to 100% at a later date. Employment will be according to the standard regulations at ETHZ (funding secured for 3 years with options for extension).
As Managing Director you are in charge of the lab’s business operations. You will be responsible for setting up the Library Lab, defining the process flows and recruiting the first fellows. Furthermore, you will accompany the fellows, broaden the participants' methodological competence and understand how to bring together researchers from different research areas so that innovative ideas can emerge from an interdisciplinary approach.
Since this is a newly created position in a newly established entity, you will be able to actively shape the lab and the framework for the fellowships. You will work closely with the Advisory Board, e.g. you will define the recruitment process for fellows in coordination with the Board.
You have a university degree and several years of professional experience in project and innovation management (for example, in a think tank, digital lab or start-up scene). You like to work with highly diverse communities – and enjoy being in charge of international researchers and supporting them closely. The development and realization of new ideas related to the future development of libraries is at the center of your work. You’re a good networker and have good connections both in Switzerland and internationally, preferably also on the science scene. Given the international orientation of the lab, English will be the main language of communication. Knowledge of German is also helpful.
You are open to new ideas, think and act strategically and understand how to cooperate with different people. You are a leader with highly creative skills and are characterized by connected thinking, assertiveness and a willingness to innovate. As a networker with excellent communicative skills, you can inspire and motivate both internally and externally for the Library Lab – and act as a building block by prototyping the future of libraries.
