The Chair for Planning of Landscape and Urban Systems (PLUS) at the Institute for Spatial and Landscape Planning, ETH Zurich, is a young, dynamic and interdisciplinary research team addressing problems of sustainable spatial and landscape development. Starting in May 2017 or under agreement we offer a position as
Research Assistant – GIS Engineer/Software Architect
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with an interest in 3D landscape visualization, developing and maintaining web-based decision-support platforms for spatial and landscape planning, as well as developing interfaces for integrated audio-visual simulations. The candidate would particularly work on projects in the Landscape Visualization and Modeling Lab (www.lvml.ethz.ch) at PLUS that focus on, e.g., data acquisition with terrestrial laser scanning and drones, GIS-based 3D visualizations of different landscape types with a mix of renewable energy systems, providing web applications integrating the 3D globe CESIUM to model and visualize scenarios of landscape change, and on developing audio-visual simulations and presenting them with a sophisticated surround sound system.
The candidate should have a Master in geomatics engineering, software engineering, computer science, or related disciplines. The ideal candidate has experience with 3D software for landscape visualization and modeling (e.g. game engines, point cloud modeling tools, 3D modelling applications for creating realistic renderings), audio and video software, web application development (HTML, Javascript), server side development, and GIS. Furthermore, the applicant should be willing to communicate with and work in an interdisciplinary team. Familiarity with terrestrial laser scanning and drones would be advantageous.
