At the Institute of Mechanical Systems (IMES) we deal with questions from the mechanical engineering environment. We focus on the three core competencies Biomechanical Engineering, Lightweight Engineering and Mechanics. 

The focus group Biomechanical Engineering deals with the function and pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, to use these findings for the research and development of medical devices. Specifically, the focus group emphasises on the biomechanical development, simulation and testing of orthopedic implants. In the future, the focus should be extended to new implant technologies, such as the integration of additive manufacturing processes for individualized medical devices. 

In order to further expand our activities in this area, as of February 1, 2020 or earlier we are looking for a 
Lecturer Biomechanical Engineering (60 - 100%)
Your duties and responsibilities include:

  • Acquisition, planning and management of applied research and development projects in the field of Biomechanical Engineering
  • Supervision of project, bachelor and master theses as well as taking on courses in Biomechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics in our Mechanical Engineering program (courses mostly in German, partially in  English language)
  • Expansion of the existing field of research on biomechanical analysis, in particular the numerical and functional analysis of novel implant technologies to cover patient-specific Needs.
You have a university degree with a doctorate in Biomechanics or Medical Technology. Proven competence and many years of experience in regulatory affairs as well as quality and process-oriented development and simulation of medical devices are prerequisites. In the future IMES would like to position itself more strongly towards EU research. Existing experience with EU research funding programs is beneficial.

You would like to demonstrate your entrepreneurial skills in the acquisition of third-party funded projects by showing a high degree of motivation and taking over personal responsibility. You enjoy working with students and being responsible for scientific staff. Eventually, you can prove a decent proficiency level for teaching in German.
