The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people.

The position concerns the theory of digital-analog quantum simulation — developing methods that extend the capabilities of programmable analog platforms using ideas from quantum computation, quantum algorithms, learning, and error mitigation. Possible directions include benchmarking quantum gates and gate primitives, developing quantum algorithms for many-body simulation, designing probing and learning protocols, and devising error-mitigation strategies for realistic digital-analog simulation experiments. The position is embedded in the European QuantERA collaboration DigiAnaQSim with partners in Germany, France, and Spain, offering an active research network and opportunities to work with both theoretical and experimental partners.

For Laboratory for Theoretical and Computational Physics we are looking for a
