The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people.
The Accelerator Simulation and Advanced Modeling Group is looking for a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate the fundamental physics of Dense Coulomb Clouds (CCs). This project combines state-of-the-art numerical modelling with experimental validation at leading facilities like Argonne National Laboratory, SwissFEL and EuPRAXIA.

- Model and study the evolution of CCs in various settings such as linear accelerators and storage rings
- Develop an theoretical understanding of the impact of relativistic velocities, phase space densities and the quantum limit
- Analyse simulation results and experimental data
- Contribute to the development of numerical techniques for controlling CC
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers
Your profile
- PhD degree in Physics, Mathematics, or a related field
- Strong computational skills and experience with particle-in-cell simulations are highly desirable
- Good knowledge of plasma and quantum physics incl. correlated systems
