The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting‐edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post‐docs, post‐graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2200 people.

This project entitles the thermocatalytic valorizations of carbon dioxide, as a strategy to meet the net‐zero transition targeted by the Swiss Federal Council by 2050. You will investigate the feasibility and performance of an innovative reactor configuration for the catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 into methanol. You will join a multidisciplinary team and will be required to carry out both experimental and numerical work. The main goal of the project is to assess the advantages of a novel catalyst and reactor configuration vs. the standard plug‐flow reactor.
Your tasks will be:
- Model the mass‐transfer phenomena associated to the pervaporation process
- Set‐up and optimization of membrane reactor
- Catalysts preparation, surface characterization and test in flow systems
- PhD degree in Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
- Experience in the modelling of transport phenomena
- Background in heterogeneous catalysis
- Ability in carrying out experimental work with flow systems
- Interest in the simulations of chemical processes for process optimization
- Fluent in English
Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with our modern employment conditions and the on‐site infrastructure.
Your employment contract is limited to 2 years.
