As part of the joint initiative Swiss Centre of Excellence on Net-Zero Emissions SCENE, and in order to support the decarbonisation strategy of Switzerland, we are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the priority action area of efficient technical cycles. Concrete is one of the most widely used building materials and a significant source of CO2, emmited during cement production. At the same time, cement acts and has the potential to act as a CO2 sink through various mechanisms during its service life and beyond. Net-Zero optimization of cementitious materials
Your tasks
  • Cement thermodynamic modelling and exploration of tailor made cement recipes using GEMS software with focus on the CO2 footprint over the material life-cycle
  • Use of machine learning techniques for inverse modelling and design space exploration, considering the mechanical properties of cement (strength, elasticity), as well as degradation mechanisms (e.g. carbonation)
  • Support the development of an online knowledge management and cement modelling tool (on the platform) and the publication of results in journals and conferences
Your profile
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow scientist with experience in one or more of the following areas: modelling of cementitious materials, programming and machine learning. The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD degree and it would be advantageous to have 1-2 years of postdoctoral research experience.

You have innovative thinking and a strong motivation for multidisciplinary research. Excellent English language skills are required.
