For the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering and Imaging we are looking for a
The task of your position is two-fold. On one side, we like to use machine-learning concepts to support the users of our instrumentation suite to optimize their measurements strategies. This optimization also include establishing statistical or information theoretical concept to optimize the data acquisition time without compromising on the information contents of the data. This task might also involves interfacing with the software engineers responsible for the data acquisition systems used for the instrumentation at SINQ. The data acquisition software at SINQ is developed collaboratively together with internal and external partners. Occasionally the task requires working in controlled areas (SINQ). Secondly, we like to support the users in the analysis of their data. We like to study algorithms automatically comparing existing and already implemented models for describing scattering patterns with experimental data to help the scientists to select possible models.
- PhD degree in natural science, statistics or informatics
- Sound knowledge in C/C++ and python
- Fluent in English
- Strong background in math and Bayesian methods as well as machine learning and knowledge in scattering theory would be an advantage
- Ability to independently solve problems and collaborate with internal and international partners
