For a position in the Time-Resolved Crystallography Group in the Laboratory of Biomolecular Research we are looking for a
The position is available in the framework of the SNF Sinergia project “Linking timeresolved structures and signal transduction within multi-domain photosensors”. Our team employs the exciting new possibilities in time-resolved structural biology at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) and the Swiss X-ray free-electron laser (SwissFEL) to investigate the allosteric signaling between domains in various photoactive protein complexes. Time-resolved IR spectroscopy in collaboration with the University of Zurich will be used to specify selected time points, at which the population of intermediates is maximized and their 3D structures can be determined. Quantum chemical and molecular dynamics simulations in collaboration with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem allow to cross-validate the experimental IR spectra. Final cell biology experiments will close the loop from the initial stimulation to signaling output. For supplementary reading we suggest Skopintsev, et al. Eligible candidates should have a PhD degree and a proven track record in structural biology, biophysics, or related fields. Adequate communication skills in English are mandatory. Experience in protein expression, purification, crystallization and timeresolved pump-probe experiments is of advantage.
