For the Large Research Facilities Division we are looking for a
Touschek Life Time and Losses in Swiss Light Source (SLS)
Your tasks
We have built a distributed system of beam loss monitors in view of the SLS upgrade project SLS 2.0. These monitors are already installed in the present SLS. It would be your task to analyze how the Touschek lifetime of the electron beam is related to those losses. It is obvious that losses are related to lifetime, but it would be your task to find out whether the injection losses can be distinguished from losses due to Touschek scattering. Also, you would answer the question whether the sensitivity of the monitors is sufficient to observe the losses during routine operation which would be of great importance for SLS 2.0.

  • You are a student of physics or computer science with a good background in physics, and you are at least in your penultimate year of undergraduate study (minimum 4 semesters)
  • You have not yet completed your Master’s thesis
