The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of matter and materials, energy and environment and human health. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2100 people. You will identify and develop membrane protein targets for time-resolved structural interaction mapping of drug binding together with our industrial partner leadXpro. You will work on purification and crystallization of the protein and characterize binding of synthetic photoactive ligands to modulate G protein-coupled receptor function. Within an interdisciplinary team of scientists, you will support our efforts in establishing time-resolved serial crystallography at the Swiss Light Source and the Swiss X-Ray Free Electron Laser. For a position in the time-resolved Structural Biology Group in the Laboratory of Biomolecular Research (LBR) we are looking for a
Postdoctoral Fellow
Your tasks
  • Identify and develop new targets within the portfolio of our industry partner
  • Expression and large-scale crystallization of G protein-coupled receptors
  • Characterization of synthetic photoactive ligands and their complexes with GPCR’s
  • Time-resolved serial crystallographic data collection
  • General support of these areas at leadXpro, LBR, SLS and SwissFEL
Your profile
We expect a completed PhD in Biochemistry, Biology or Physics with additional post-doctoral education as an extra qualification. The ideal candidate is a structural biologist with experience in the expression and crystallization of G protein-coupled receptors. Additional knowledge in the design of ligands that can be activated with light, pharmacology of GPCR’s, experience in time-resolved spectroscopy and ligand binding assays is of advantage.
We offer
Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with our modern employment conditions and the on-site infrastructure.

Your employment contract is limited to 2 years.
