The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. You will identify and develop membrane protein targets for time-resolved structural interaction mapping of drug binding together with our industrial partner leadXpro. You will work on purification and crystallization of the protein and characterize binding of synthetic photoactive ligands to modulate G protein-coupled receptor function. Within an interdisciplinary team of scientists, you will support our efforts in establishing time-resolved serial crystallography at the Swiss Light Source and the Swiss X-Ray Free Electron Laser. For a position in the time-resolved Structural Biology Group in the Laboratory of Biomolecular Research (LBR) we are looking for a
- Identify and develop new targets within the portfolio of our industry partner
- Expression and large-scale crystallization of G protein-coupled receptors
- Characterization of synthetic photoactive ligands and their complexes with GPCR’s
- Time-resolved serial crystallographic data collection
- General support of these areas at leadXpro, LBR, SLS and SwissFEL
We expect a completed PhD in Biochemistry, Biology or Physics with additional post-doctoral education as an extra qualification. The ideal candidate is a structural biologist with experience in the expression and crystallization of G protein-coupled receptors. Additional knowledge in the design of ligands that can be activated with light, pharmacology of GPCR’s, experience in time-resolved spectroscopy and ligand binding assays is of advantage.
