The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of matter and materials, energy and environment and human health. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2100 people.
At the Laboratory for Mesoscopic Systems - ETH Zurich (based at PSI), we investigate mesoscopic magnetic systems (http://www.mesosys.mat.ethz.ch
) and are looking for a
- To conduct outstanding research in the field of ultrafast processes in magnetic nanostructures
- To fabricate nanostructures with electron beam lithography
- To study ultrafast processes with a lab-based setup and X-Ray free electron lasers
Excellent qualifications with a PhD degree in physics, materials science or a related subject are expected, with a high-quality track record in research. Extensive experience in using fs lasers to unravel ultrafast processes in magnetic materials is required. Knowledge of lithography and large-scale facility measurements would also be helpful. Good teamwork and communication skills are required, with a proactive approach to drive forward research in collaboration with different laboratories at the Paul Scherrer Institute and internationally.
