The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. Within our PROACTIV and APAL projects, we are performing advanced deterministic and probabilistic integrity analysis in the context of the irradiation embrittlement of the reactor pressure vessel as well as probabilistic leak before break analysis of pressure boundary components in the context of ageing mechanism like stress corrosion cracking or fatigue. For strengthening of this modeling research activity we are looking for a
- Deterministic and probabilistic RPV integrity analysis in the context of irradiation embrittlement PTS for reference PWR RPVs with FEM ABAQUS and probabilistic fracture mechanics PFM codes FAVOR in the frame of the APAL and PROACTIV projects
- 2D- and 3D-fracture mechanics crack growth, arrest analysis under complex boundary, geometry conditions by FEM, XFEM and their experimental validation
- Participation in international benchmarks and round robins in these fields
- Publication of results in scientific journals and at international conferences
You are a young scientist/engineer and hold a PhD degree in mechanical engineering or material science (or equivalent education/experience). You have a very solid background, practical experience in structural, deterministic and probabilistic fracture mechanics as well as corresponding experience with Finite Element modelling (ABAQUS, structural mechanics & CFD) and good programming skills. Good communication skills in English are required and a working knowledge of German would be an asset. You are a team player and like to work in a multidisciplinary environment with industrial and regulatory contacts.
