The Department of Environmental Microbiology (Umik) offers the following position starting earliest July 2023 (starting date is negotiable):
Project Coordinator: LeCo Project (m/w/d) 60 - 80%
We are looking for a scientist who is interested in drinking water quality and human health, and specifically the interface between science, regulation and practice. We are searching for candidates that are highly motivated and enjoy working in an inter-disciplinary team, that are curious about the latest scientific breakthroughs and how these can be transferred into practice and legislation. Applicants must have a clear interest in science communication, science management, organising meetings, compiling reports, and building stakeholder networks.

What is the project about? Legionella is a genus of bacteria living in building drinking water systems and causing Legionellosis, which is a major problem in developed countries. The Swiss-wide inter-disciplinary LeCo project focusses on Legionella control in buildings, and incorporates a range of research activities dealing with risk assessment, sampling, monitoring, epidemiology and ecology. The project is sponsored by the federal government, and involves basic research, applied research, interaction with stakeholders from practice and from government.

You are preferably an environmental scientist or from a related discipline. You are interested in research, enjoy strategic work and working in a scientific context. You are curious, proactive, have excellent organisational and communication skills. Preferably, you have already project management experience. Working with project partners and stakeholders requires you to be fluent in German and English. Knowledge of French and /or Italian is advantageous. We are aware that you may not be an expert in all of the aspects noted above – but if you are willing and able to grow in this position, then we believe you are the right person for us.

We offer this position for 1.5 years (with the possibility of extension) in an inspiring environment with flexible working conditions. You will have room for development in the direction of your choice and great opportunities to expand your network. You will be co-coordinating the LeCo project in close collaboration with the project leader and various work package leaders.
