The Department of Environmental Toxicology (Utox) invites applications for a
PhD position in toxicology to develop alternatives to animal tests using fish
Are you excited about advancing new approach methods to reduce and eliminate the use of animals in chemical risk assessment? As part of our world-renowned research programme to establish fish cell line-based in vitro assay procedures to predict chemical impact on fish, we have an opening for a PhD student to push these frontiers with a focus on the role of habitat (temperature) and tissue- and species sensitivity. The envisioned project is embedded in an interdisciplinary setting where you have the opportunity to employ and further develop state-of-the-art experimental approaches using fish cell lines, along with aspects of analytical chemistry and computational modelling to enable in vitro-to-in-vivo extrapolations (IVIVE).

We are looking for candidates who share our passion for developing alternatives to animal testing and facilitating their timely implementation. If you hold an MSc in environmental science or life sciences you are invited to apply. Prior experience in working with permanent cells, having a flair for chemicals and/or computational approaches would be strong assets. Solid work ethics, mature teamwork attitude and good English skills are essential.
