Exploring the emerging profession of integration experts

Interested in inter- and transdisciplinary integration?
Ready to work at Eawag and travel to the Netherlands?

Integration is widely regarded as both the key feature and the core challenge of inter- and transdisciplinary research. Given the importance of integration, we assume a new profession of ‘integration experts’ to emerge, specializing in leading processes of integration within inter- and transdisciplinary projects and programs. The goal of the project is to better understand: (a) the diverse roles, functions and tasks integration experts assume, (b) the different skills and competencies they require to successfully lead processes of integration, (c) the challenges they face and the opportunities they offer, and (d) the factors that enable/hinder this profession to establish.

We are looking for a motivated environmental science student interested in inter- and transdisciplinary research with a particular focus on integration. The student will be expected to (a) review existing literature on integration experts/leaders, (b) design an interview guideline based on that literature review and (c) conduct semi-structured interviews with integration experts/leaders at Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, and KWR, the Watercycle Research Institute in the Netherlands.

Applications must be submitted by 24 April 2020 and should include an application letter describing your interests and their relevance to this position as well as a CV.
