Post-Doc position in tribology of high speed, electrical contacts

The project will mainly be carried out in the Laboratory for Surface Science and Coating Technologies but will involve close collaborations with engineers and corrosion scientists at Empa. The laboratories involved in this project offer a wide range of state of the art equipment. There will also be close collaboration with a large international company in Zurich.

Your tasks will include the design of testing equipment required to imitate the working mechanism of an industrial application. A significant part of this will be the assessment of various sensors to determine the most beneficial. Pre- and post-testing, comprehensive surface chemical and mechanical analyses will be required to characterize the wear and friction properties and validate the equipment.

This research, part of a large industrial project, will be carried out primarily at Empa in Dübendorf, near Zurich. The expected starting date will be in spring of 2025 and the project will run for 2 years. Empa offers excellent infrastructure in a highly interdisciplinary environment and encourages participation in international conferences.
