In line with Empa’s mission, the Technology and Society Laboratory (TSL) creates and transfers knowledge to support the transition to a more sustainability society. In particular, TSL analyses novel materials and emerging technology applications with a focus on associated material, energy stocks and flows, to evaluate them with regard to both natural environment and societal constraints.
Within TSL, the Advancing Life Cycle Assessment Group (ALCA), is looking for a Postdoc who will participate in the creation of a new digital ecosystem to democratize the exchange of knowledge on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and thus help to identify the more efficient pathways to tackle climate change. This work will be done in the framework of the Innosuisse Flagship project "WISER" that proposes a systemic innovation for Switzerland in order to become a world leader in environmental accounting.
The position will give you the opportunity to carry out research activities on the topics of GHG data management and uncertainty assessment. You will also have the chance to collaborate with many Swiss academic and implementation partners within the WISER project. Your work will be essential to provide simple, efficient and novel solutions to a community of stakeholders with interests in GHG assessment. More specifically, you will create a data repository (i.e. listing of data sources) for the WISER digital ecosystem, analyze existing GHG data in order to develop an ontology with other partners (e.g. ecoinvent, researchers in computer science), and propose options to define data uncertainty for the considered data sources. The position will also offer the possibility to help in the management of a sub-project to ensure its completion in due time.
The initial contract will go until end of 2025, with the option of further extension.
The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
