Empa's Technology and Society Laboratory (TSL) explores the role of novel materials and emerging technologies in the transformation towards a more sustainable society and supports stakeholders in developing safe and sustainable materials, technologies and socio-technical systems.

We are looking for a group leader in the field of "sustainable materials cycles"

Your tasks

The successful candidate will lead a research group and further develop our research topic "sustainable material cycles" under consideration of emerging trends and pressing societal challenges such as bio-based and circular economy, carbon removal, clean cycles, energy transition, green and digital transformation, and raw materials criticality.

Your profile

The candidate should have

  • an excellent scientific and publication track record;
  • successfully acquired and led international research projects in an inter- and transdisciplinary context;
  • a strong background in environmental engineering, environmental or natural sciences, industrial ecology, recycling technologies or related fields;
  • expertise in the application and further development of several of the following methodologies: design for circularity, material flow analysis, life cycle (sustainability) assessment, sampling, sample preparation and analysis;
  • ideally experience in North-South cooperation;
  • very good communication and leadership skills;
  • fluency in English, good German language skills are an asset.

The tenure track position will ideally have to be filled until end of 2023. We support teaching at an academic institution and student supervision on a master and PhD - level.
