Wood is an outstanding renewable resource with versatile qualities that has the potential to become a vital component of the future bioeconomy. However, preserving biodiversity and addressing the impact of climate change on forests requires the development of new wood processing techniques and more efficiency across the entire wood value chain. To this end, the
WoodTec research group at the Cellulose & Wood Material Laboratory invites applicants for a postdoctoral position focused on designing machine learning algorithms to enhance wood utilization.
Your tasks
The research focus is on the development and use of data science techniques together with experimental analysis in order to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the complex material wood. We have ongoing basic and applied projects for which we need a postdoc with competences in data science. The candidate is expected to contribute to existing projects either directly or through PhD students and to develop and secure new research projects.
Your profile
We are searching for a highly motivated, creative and communicative person that can bridge expertise between data science and wood technology. Required qualifications include a PhD degree in computer science, data science or related field with a strong background in machine learning. An interest in sustainability, biomaterials and wood technology is advantageous, but not a requirement. We expect a track record of high-quality scientific publications. Very good communication and writing skills in English are required, good German language skills are beneficial.
