The success of an implant is crucially dependent on rapid and stable tissue integration. Predicting the tissue integration potential of new implant surface designs is of paramount importance for implant development.
Candidates holding a PhD degree in biomedical engineering, (bio)materials science, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology or a related field with a high motivation to work in an interdisciplinary project are invited to apply. Experience with cell culture work, excellent communication skills and good verbal and written knowledge in English are a prerequisite.
We offer for this project a highly stimulating research environment in the Empa laboratory in St. Gallen with outstanding infrastructure to fabricate and characterize 3D tissue models and to investigate their interactions with novel implant surfaces. The project will be carried out in collaboration with partners at Empa in Dübendorf and Thun as well as two large industrial companies.
This position (100%) is immediately available and for a period of 2 years with the possibility for an extension.
