Empa is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and the well-being of society.
The main objective of a national, multi-partner and interdisciplinary research project is to develop materials and processes for 3D printing of biomedical ceramic implants. The project is in collaboration with a leading Swiss industrial partner in the field of bioceramics. In addition, another academic partner will focus on the design and biomechanical testing of this new type of implant. Within this project, our Laboratory for High Performance Ceramics offers a position for a
Post-Doc in Ceramic Materials Research
to develop ceramic composite materials and the associated processing to manufacture high quality bioceramic implants. Using different 3D printer technologies, the aim is to make fully dense implants in high performance alumina and zirconia based composites. An in depth knowledge of ceramic slurry processing, polymer chemistry and 3D printing is necessary. Practical experience of stereo-lithography apparatus and digital light processer printing, as well as of mechanical and microstructural characterization techniques is an advantage.
For this demanding project, we are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a Ph.D. in chemistry, ceramics, or materials science. The candidate needs to be fluent in English (oral and written) and preferably has a basic knowledge of German.
