Empa - the place where innovation starts

Empa is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and the well-being of society.
Empa's Electron Microscopy Center is offering a
Postdoc position in the field of in-situ (scanning) transmission electron microscopy of nucleation reactions
Goal of the project is the investigation of cluster formation, nucleation phenomena and particle growth at high spatial resolution. The project is part of an extensive team effort, funded by ERC, which aside from liquid-cell measurements addresses additional high-resolution electron microscopy approaches to study nucleation phenomena. Possible areas of research activities cover liquid cell measurements, experiments employing ionic liquids, including measurements at variable temperatures, or investigations of particle self-assembly. Core of the work is carried out on a probe aberration-corrected analytical microscope at Empa.

We are looking for a highly motivated young scientist with a PhD in chemistry, physics or a related discipline, and a thorough background in aberration-corrected (scanning) transmission electron microscopy, preferably including in-situ transmission electron microscopy, image analysis and basic programming. Candidates with demonstrated research skills and excellent scientific background will be considered. Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory, basic comprehension and oral expression skills in German are desirable, but not mandatory.

We offer this postdoc position at a research institution in Dübendorf, very close to Zürich, Switzerland, with excellent infrastructure and interdisciplinary environment. This full-time position is available as of January 1st 2020 for a period of 1 year, extendable but subject to good performance.

For further information about the position please contact Dr Rolf Erni rolf.erni@empa.ch and visit our websites www.empa.ch/web/s299 and Empa-Video

We look forward to receiving your online application including a letter of motivation, CV, diplomas with transcripts, a list of publications and contact details of two to three referees. Please upload the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered.
