The Urban Energy Systems Laboratory develops models and concepts for decentralized energy system technologies based on renewable energy and innovative districts, including prototypes and demonstration plants. To strengthen our scientific team we are looking for a
Postdoc or Scientist in energy management and applied control topics

Your tasks

You will work in research and development projects in the fields of decentralized energy systems for buildings, districts and cities focusing on energy hub applications using data-driven approaches. You will design and evaluate use cases for Bottom-up-Technologies in the distribution grid and verify your work on the Empa demonstrators NEST, ehub and move. You will perform data analysis of the demonstrators and other sources and develop respective evaluation tools and control strategies. You will translate your research ideas into projects, in close collaboration with our interdisciplinary team and our external scientific and industry partners.

Your Profile

You are a highly motivated and dedicated person with a MSc and preferably also PhD in energy-, control engineering, or comparable. You should have profound and interdisciplinary knowledge in systems modelling, data science (i.e. learning algorithms) and experience with energy and building technology. Experience in adaptive control is preferred, but not required. Additionally, experience with the development, acquisition and management of research projects  is desirable. Excellent written and spoken language skills in English are mandatory and knowledge of German would be an advantage.
