Empa’s Electron Microscopy Center is offering a

Post-doctoral position: Transmission Electron Microscopy of Nucleation Reactions and Advanced Data Analysis

in the area of in-situ and analytical high resolution (scanning) transmission electron microscopy.

Goal of the project is the investigation of nucleation phenomena at high spatial and high temporal resolution by controlling nucleation reactions. The project is part of an extensive team effort which involves theoretical support as well. An important aspect of this position is the development and/or implementation of new data analysis methods applied to large data files.

We are looking for a highly-motivated young scientist with a PhD in materials science, chemistry, physics or a related discipline, and a thorough background in aberration-corrected (scanning) transmission electron microscopy, including image analysis, scripting and programming (e.g. Python). Candidates with demonstrated research skills and excellent scientific background will be considered. Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory, basic comprehension and oral expression skills in German are desirable.

This full-time position is available as of March 1st 2018 for a period of 1 year, extendable to a total duration of 2 or 3 years.
