The Laboratory for Biomimetic Membranes and Textiles 
is seeking:


one PhD in the area of Synthesis of Hydrogel Fibers via Microfluidic Wet Spinning

Our group develops optical probes customized for the detection of several relevant bio-markers, such as pH, glucose and ammonia, as well as different sorts of external parameters, such as pressure, humidity and temperature to be employed in both sensing and therapy applications.


The PhD student will be responsible for the inclusion of such nanostructures in hydrogel micro and nanofibers fabricated by microfluidic wet spinning.

Experience in polymer synthesis andcross-linking chemistry is a must. Candidates with no experience in polymer chemistry will not be considered. Previous experience with microfluidic synthesis is a bonus, but not required.

 

We are looking for motivated candidates with a strong background in the supra-mentioned topics, ability to work in a multidisciplinary field and open to learn new topics. The PhD candidates need to be proficient in spoken and written English and have a Master's degree.


The work will be carried out at Empa St. Gallen under supervision of Dr. Claudio Toncelli. The position will be available from March 2018 with planned project duration of three to four years.
