The Laboratory for Biomimetic Membranes and Textiles at Empa in St. Gallen is seeking a full-time
Postdoc in the area of Material Science, Chemistry and Polymer Processing
The activities of the Postdoc position are focused on appliedresearch and incorporate the development of polymeric films / membranes with transparent, breathable and antimicrobial properties for medical applications.The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, executing and analyzing scientific experiments including synthesis and preparations of prototype devices for further testing and, in a later stage, for up-scaling purposes.Thereby, both conventional as well as novel synthesis routes and combinations thereof will be developed and applied. In addition, the candidate will be involved in writing scientific publications, presenting results at national and international scientific meetings, and leading projects.

The candidate should have a PhD degree in Material Science, Polymer Chemistry or related disciplines. We are looking for a highly motivated person capable of independent, efficient handling of scientific questions in an interdisciplinary environment. The candidate is expected to actively bring in his/her scientific expertise and competence including good communication skills. Previous experience in one or more of the following fields such as chemical synthesis, polymer processing, coating applications, polymer spinning and respective analytics are required. Fluency in English,both oral and written, is desired. The position (100%) will be initially limited to two years. This project is a cooperation between Empa and the “École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne” EPFL, thereby facilities at both sites will be used.
