Empa - the place where innovation starts
Empa is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and the well-being of society.
Empa’s Electron Microscopy Center is offering the following position for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of in-situ liquid-cell (scanning) transmission electron microscopy.
Post-doctoral position: in-situ Transmission Electron Microscopy of Nucleation Reactions
Goal of the project is the investigation of nucleation phenomena at high spatial resolution by controlling nucleation reactions chemically. The project is part of an extensive team effort which aside from the liquid-cell approach addresses additional high-resolution electron microscopy approaches to study nucleation phenomena and which involves theoretical support as well. Core of the work will be carried out on a new aberration-corrected microscope at Empa.
We are looking for a highly-motivated young scientist with a PhD in chemistry, physics or a related discipline, and a thorough background in aberration-corrected (scanning) transmission electron microscopy, preferably including in-situ transmission electron microscopy, image analysis and basic programming. Candidates with demonstrated research skills and excellent scientific background will be considered. Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory, basic comprehension and oral expression skills in German are desirable.
This full-time position is available as of January 1st 2018 for a period of 1 year, extendable up to a total duration of 3 years, subject to good performance.
