Professor and Head of the BA Interior Architecture and Scenography (80–100%)

The Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW is welcoming, joyful, quirky and transformative! We are looking for a new head our Bachelor programme Interior Architecture and Scenography. This involves a professorship with a focus on Interior Architecture and Scenography.

Key Responsibilities

The Institute Contemporary Design Practices (ICDP) at the Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW (HGK Basel) encompasses three Bachelor's degree programs (Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Interior Architecture and Scenography), a Master's Design Studio with specialization in Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Scenography, as well as a research and continuing education division.

As part of this dynamic academic environment, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the BA programme in Interior Architecture and Scenography, with full responsibility for budget, personnel, strategic development, planning, and implementation.
  • Serving as a member of the ICDP leadership team, actively contributing to internal and external committee work.
  • Teaching (seminars, lectures, projects) in the BA Interior Architecture and Scenography, as well as the supervision of individual bachelor's theses (project work, thesis).
  • Positioning and strengthening the BA Interior Architecture and Scenography in both regional and international contexts, expanding its reach and influence.
  • Advancing theoretical frameworks, learning methodologies, and practices in the field of Interior Architecture and Scenography.
  • Securing third-party funding for research projects, initiating collaborative partnerships with industry and cultural institutions, and disseminating research findings through conferences and exhibitions.
  • Actively contributing to the strategic development of the ICDP, fostering synergies between research, teaching, and practice within the BA Interior Architecture and Scenography program, as well as across other BA degree programs.

Your profile

You hold a university degree (MA) in a design discipline or related field.

Furthermore, you meet the following criteria:

  • You have several years of distinguished teaching, practice and research experience, particularly in one or more of the following areas: architecture, interior design, spatial design, stage design, exhibition design, scenic spaces, virtual spaces, social spaces, and scenography.
  • You have excellent knowledge and a strong network in the mentioned areas, ideally within the Swiss context/education landscape.
  • You have extensive leadership experience, incl. human resources, finance, strategy and development.
  • You have experience with innovative teaching methods and the implementation of high-quality practical teaching.
  • You have excellent communication and organizational skills
  • You have extensive networks and have experience in working with interdisciplinary teams
  • You hold a qualification in higher education didactics or are willing to acquire this within the first few year.
  • You possess excellent German and English language skills in both spoken and written.
