Your tasks
As a bioprocessing postdoctoral scientist, you will have a unique opportunity to participate in an industry-academic collaborative research project between FHNW (Muttenz, Switzerland) and Lonza (Slough, UK). Your main responsibility will be data processing and data analytics of high-throughput experiments, utilising microbioreactors and various analytical techniques to optimise bioprocessing protocols for the production of novel biopharmaceuticals. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in data processing, machine learning, control theory and automation, and will be able to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team from academia and industry to implement innovative solutions.
  • establish a novel automated high-throughput bioprocessing and analytics platform; implement and optimise ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes to efficiently extract data from various sources, load it into databases and transform it into a usable format
  • apply various modelling and control techniques to monitor, predict and control biopharmaceutical processes and protein products
  • collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design and analyse experiments, contributing to overall project objectives
  • troubleshoot technical issues and propose creative solutions to improve experimental and automation protocols
  • present research findings through internal reports, scientific publications, and presentations at international conferences

The contract is limited to three years.
Your profile
  • recent PhD graduate or currently a postdoc in the field of process control, data science, (bio)chemical engineering or similar
  • highly motivated with a passion for applied scientific research and technical innovation
  • proficiency in machine learning, control theory, and automation
  • extensive experience in programming languages commonly used in data analysis, such as Python, R or Matlab
  • excellent communication and reporting skills in English mandatory
  • ability to work collaboratively in an international team environment and engage in cross-functional projects
  • strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • willingness to travel regularly up to 50% of the time
