Principal Design Engineer (Structures)

We are seeking an experienced Aviation Principal Design Engineer to support our Special Missions team in delivering aircraft acquisition and modification projects to our Civil and Defence customers.

The successful candidate will approve aircraft modification designs and provide technical leadership for the structures team. As a crucial part of a team, you will ensure design projects are completed on time and in line with contracted objectives.

Description/Tasks:
  • Design, certification and demonstration of compliance of aircraft modifications within the scope of delegated authorisation and in-line with regulatory design standards and company policies and procedures
  • Supervise and/or develop detailed drawings, tools, quantities, material lists and cost estimates, ensuring compliance and adherence to agreed specifications
  • Undertake design projects ensuring engineering and commercial outcomes are accurate and adhere to specifications and standards
  • Supervise the manufacture and installation of designs and modifications, ensuring timeliness, accuracy and compliance in delivery
  • Provide timely updates to internal and external customers, 
  • Ensure project deliverables and milestones are met on time and within budget
  • Contribute to the planning and quoting of projects as required
Qualification/Experience:
  • CASA CASR Part 21M authority (or similar design approval authorisation in another National Airworthiness Authority), or the qualifications/experience required to gain the authority.
  • Relevant aviation engineering tertiary qualification
  • Experience in Damage Tolerance Analysis and/or System Safety Analysis and/or managing aircraft modification projects would be highly regarded.
  • Aircraft design experience in a civil and/or military environment with a demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems with minimum supervision.
  • A demonstrated practical and pragmatic approach to solving aircraft design problems.
  • Thorough understanding of airworthiness regulations (CASA, DASA, FAA, EASA)
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing task priorities.
  • Proactive and results-oriented with experience working to deadlines and delivering quality results.
