Job tasks
The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) is seeking a Computational Proteomics Scientist to join its Computational Biology Facility.

The facility supports and collaborates with FMI scientists to analyze and interpret large, state-of-the-art datasets, addressing fundamental questions in biomedical research. It also provides external and in-house developed analysis tools (https://fmicompbio.github.io) and offers training in programming, bioinformatics, and reproducible research. The facility is a member of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and actively contributes to community projects such as Bioconductor and Galaxy.

In this role, you will
  • Collaborate with FMI scientists to interpret, communicate, and publish results.
  • Work closely with the Mass Spectrometry Facility on advanced data analysis.
  • Analyze proteomics datasets and develop new analytical approaches when needed.
  • Advise scientists on experimental design and data analysis strategies.
  • Teach and mentor scientists in computational proteomics.
Profile requirements
  • You hold a PhD degree or can demonstrate equivalent experience in computational biology, physics, mathematics, biology or related fields, with formal training in statistics and multivariate data analysis.
  • You have strong programming skills, including knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and signal processing.
  • You have extensive analyzing and interpreting mass spectrometry data using state-of-the-art tools, and you are interested in integrating it with other data modalities, such as RNA-seq or ATAC-seq data.
  • You enjoy collaborative projects, communicate results effectively, and work well with experimental biologists.
