Job description
To strengthen SIB’s scientific impact and to support SIB’s partnerships and networks, SIB is looking for a Scientific Relations Manager. The successful candidate will facilitate the establishment and follow-up of scientific activities and partnerships with national and international stakeholders.

The position is permanent and part-time based in Lausanne with home-office flexibility. 

The Scientific Relations Manager's main responsibilities will include:
  • Proactively identify opportunities for SIB to participate in national and international scientific activities, contact the relevant SIB groups and facilitate starting the collaborations, including drafting and supporting competitive proposals.
  • Develop and support network capacity of SIB engagements and partnerships. 
  • Oversee the internal management processes of submitted projects as well as funded projects.
  • Ensure compliance with funder and partner requirements and timely reporting as well as internal SIB management groups (admin, legal and financial). 
  • Organise and drive internal SIB alignment meetings.
  • Coordinate communication and collaboration with other international bodies. 
  • Thanks to a proactive approach based on the services SIB teams can provide, collaborate to help identify and set up collaborations with private companies. 
  • Travel within Switzerland and Europe as required to collaborate with internal and external partners (up to 10%, mostly day trips).

Profile requirements
  • A PhD within a relevant area such as bioinformatics or molecular biology; applicants with education at master level in a relevant area combined with significant experience and insight in life science research can also be considered. 
  • Proven track record in preparing and submitting successful grant proposals, particularly for European and international funding programmes. 
  • At least 3-5 years of experience managing multi-partner projects or consortia, including project coordination, reporting, and compliance with funder requirements. 
  • Solid understanding of academic and research infrastructure environments, including their governance and funding mechanisms. 
  • Exposure to financial management, budgeting, and resource allocation for funded projects. 
  • Deep understanding of research funding mechanisms at a national and international level. 
  • Familiarity with scientific collaboration frameworks (e.g., ELIXIR, EOSC, or similar research infrastructures).
  • Excellent command of the English language, both orally and in writing. 

Preferred: 
  • Good knowledge of the Swiss and international life science ecosystem, including international and European initiatives; A strong network in this domain is a plus.
  • Experience with working in cross-institutional projects, preferably including several countries is an asset.
