Agroscope is the Swiss centre of excellence for research in agriculture, nutrition and the environment. We have an opening for a candidate with a master thesis (ideally bioinformatics, computational biology) to join AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. 
Start date: October 1, 2023 (or upon agreement)

We offer competent supervision and guidance in the frame of our research group, insights into a highly interesting field at the interface of research and practical applications, and options for further education. Previous candidates gained relevant work experience and co-authorship(s) on one or more scientific publications.  

Tasks
-       De novo genome assembly using NGS data from different technologies (Illumina, PacBio, Oxford Nanopore Technologies) and genome annotation of microorganisms (bacteria, yeasts, fungi) 
-       Comparative genomic analyses to identify core, accessory and strain-specific genes of strains isolated from microbiomes (comparison to known strains) 
-       Data analysis of RNA-Seq data (differential gene expression analysis), gene set enrichment analyses  
-       Data analysis of proteomics data 
-       Preparation of scientific reports, contribution to publications 
-       Maintenance /extension of existing data analysis pipelines (genome assembly, RNA-Seq, proteomics)
Profile requirements
-       Recently (not more than 12 months ago) finished Master’s degree (FH, ETH or University)  
-       Motivated scientist with a degree in IT/Bioinformatics/Microbiology
-       Experience in the analysis of functional genomics data (genome assembly, comparative genomics, RNA-Seq, proteomics pathway analysis)  
-       Knowledge in the analysis of metagenomics data is a plus 
-       Solid programming experience (Linux scripting/bash, R, Python), experience managing virtual systems 
-       Knowledge of German and English (oral, written) 
-       Strong team player with good communication skills
