The Resource Usability & Support team provides a range of high-quality services to SIB scientists. The mission of the team is to increase the visibility, usability, and impact of world-renowned scientific digital products used by thousands of researchers every day.
More specifically, we are looking to grow this area of expertise by driving both quantitative and qualitative user research (with a special emphasis on user analytics), providing thorough user experience studies, providing guidance in the field of human-centered design methods, UX Research, and UX Design, and promoting the user-centered approach within the institute.
The position will focus on the 4 areas:
UX Research
- Apply a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods to inform, lead, and support the development of new features, and the continuous improvement of existing ones
- Quantitative research (non-exhaustive list): Analytics (Google Analytics, Plausible, Matomo, etc.), User surveys (online, paper, polls, etc.), or website interceptors
- Qualitative research (non-exhaustive list): Card sorting, User interviews, Focus groups, Personas, Empathy maps, User journeys
- Participate in redesigning the analytics dashboard
UX Design
- Use qualitative and quantitative information gathered to provide meaningful and relevant user experiences
- Assess usability of existing products, define pain points, and outline solutions
- Create wireframes and iteratively validate these wireframes with target users
- Organize workshops or design sprints with stakeholders
Guidelines, Best practice sharing
- Provide SIB's scientists with a set of tool kits (such as How to create a user survey? How to conduct a user interview? What is cognitive load and how to overcome it?)
- Define and share a set of best practices in the field of user-centered design
Promotion and adoption
- Be an advocate at SIB for user-centered design and identify research opportunities
- Master’s degree in Computer Sciences HCI, Interaction Design or equivalent and additional work experience in a relevant field
- Min. 5 years of experience with human-centered design methods (e.g. User Research & UX Design), ideally in a Biotech, Medtech, or Pharma company
- Knowledge in Biology
Technical Skills:
- Solid experience in planning and conducting UX Design studies and user research at different stages of a design process
- Mastery of analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Plausible, and/or Matomo
- Hands-on experience in designing user surveys, personas, empathy maps, or user journeys
- Hands-on experience in organizing/facilitating card sorting sessions, user interviews, focus groups, workshops, design sprints
- Ability to produce clear and concise presentations and guidelines
Soft skills
- Excellent analytical skills and a quick understanding of complex situations
