Job tasks

The application of Next Generation Sequencing to profile biological samples at the single-cell level is driving amazing discoveries. This single-cell revolution asks for advanced bioinformatics and involves challenging tasks in the analysis of high-dimensional data.

The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) Genome Informatics group operates at the interface of biological research and high-performance computing and provides researchers with the analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. The team covers all analysis steps from raw data to statistical evaluation and supports researchers in the interpretation and integrated analysis of NGS data. The group runs an excellent open source-based software environment and establishes state-of-the-art data analysis concepts and algorithms.

The successful candidate will extend the existing team and closely collaborate with researchers at University of Zurich and ETH Zurich. The main responsibilities will be the reproducible analysis and interpretation of omics datasets with a focus on single-cell sequencing. Additionally, she/he/they will develop, implement and maintain reusable data analysis workflows and provide bioinformatics support to the Zurich research community.

Profile requirements

We are seeking a bioinformatician that is highly proficient in NGS data analysis and has very good scripting skills. The ideal candidate is highly communicative, team-oriented and is enthusiastic about statistical and bioinformatics analysis of NGS and other omics data.  She/he/they is service-oriented and ready to keep up with the constant developments in the field.

Advanced knowledge of English is essential as this is the working language; knowledge of German is helpful.

We expect a degree in bioinformatics or a related field. The candidate needs to have working experience with GNU/Linux operating system and script-based NGS data analysis and bioinformatics. She/he/they has an in-depth knowledge of R/Bioconductor. Experience with Linux system administration and knowledge of other languages like Python or PHP represent a plus.
