Job description

A bioinformatics data analyst position is available in the group of Mihaela Zavolan at the Biozentrum, University of Basel. The group combines high-throughput experimental with computational approaches to study many aspects of RNA processing in the context of processes such as organism aging and cancer development.

The expertise of our group members covers the entire spectrum of biomedical research, from molecular biology to computational tool development, data analysis and software engineering. We recently relocated in a new building in a large and very active life science research park that includes multiple research institutes.

We study how gene expression is regulated in mammalian cells, how it is perturbed in diseases and what key factors are responsible for dysregulation.

We are looking for a talented bioinformatician with extensive experience in transcriptome and proteome data analysis to help us integrate data sets generated in our lab or through collaborative projects.

You work closely with other members of the group to help analyze and integrate high-throughput data sets, supporting ongoing projects in the group as well as our collaborative projects.

We are a highly interdisciplinary, international and supportive team of scientists, where you will have the opportunity to broaden your horizons, develop new ideas, and engage other team members in implementing and testing your ideas in experimental systems. At the Biozentrum we have access to state-of-the-art facilities for systems-level interrogation of biological systems and a computational infrastructure to match the demands of big data science. We are also part of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and of the NCCR network “RNA and Disease”.

Profile requirements

You hold a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or related field, and you have strong experience in analyzing sequence data (transcriptomes, proteomes, binding data for RNA-binding proteins or transcription factors).

Start date: available immediately.
