The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva benefits from an enriching multicultural environment to which it contributes by its influence within the framework of the mandates that it has given to itself: teaching, research and its partnership with the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG).
The research will be done within the Data Science for Digital Health (DS4DH) lab and it is funded by Swiss funding agencies in collaboration with multiple industrial partners in the HealthTech sector. The objective is to develop novel Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies to extract knowledge from unstructured data, as well as to design state-of-the-art deep learning models (Transformer-based Language Models, Graph Neural Networks, etc.) to gather insights from knowledge graphs within the biomedical and healthcare domains. The position can optionally involve teaching activities, such as seminars for graduate and under-graduate students.
The post-doctoral researcher will be located at the Campus Biotech, which is the life sciences hub for the lake Geneva area.
The newly established DS4DH group, under the Department of Radiology and Medical Informatics, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva aims to design and implement novel algorithms and computational methods for the management and analysis of complex and large-scale datasets in the health and life sciences domains to foster innovative digital health solutions. With multiple PhD’s and Postdoctoral researchers working in a vibrant and interdisciplinary environment, the group is particularly interested in developing research around machine learning and NLP models that can blend and exploit (semantically) rich and (often) non-Euclidean datasets to create actionable insights. DS4DH is located at Campus Biotech and works closely with other academic and private actors at the forefront of innovation in digital health.
The successful candidate has recently graduated with a PhD in areas such as Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or similar areas, and is/has:
- Proficient in fundamental concepts in data science and modern machine learning
- Preferably familiar with NLP and with knowledge of GNN’s and graphs
- Strong publication record during PhD
- Excellent programming skills (e.g., in Python)
- Highly motivated to do impactful research in health-related domains using data science skills
- A problem solver with strong teamwork skills and agile attitude
We are looking for a reliable, rigorous, motivated, hard-working person with a strong passion for research in data science applied to digital health.
The ideal candidate will be autonomous in the organization of his/her work, but will also be able to interface scientifically on a regular basis with those in charge of the research, while naturally integrating into an international team.
The contract is for a period of one year and is renewable.
