Job tasks
The SIB Training Group and  IBU are hiring a bioinformatician to support training and research services.

The activities of the successful candidate will be shared between the SIB Training Group (50%, employer SIB), to develop and provide bioinformatics training, and the IBU team (50%, employer IBU), to contribute to research support services in NGS.

Profile requirements
Our ideal candidate has a PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related subject, and enthusiasm for training. Some postdoctoral experience and a track record in teaching and/or outreach and training, at university or elsewhere, are a plus. The content of the training courses to be developed and offered can be adapted to the background of the candidate, and we are interested in expertise in the broad area of NGS. Establishing training and support in single-cell will be a priority of the position.
  • proficiency in at least one programming language (primary working languages will be R and Python)
  • proven experience with NGS data analysis
  • experience in biostatistics and/or machine learning
  • very good organisational skills
  • a demonstrated ability to collaborate with researchers from various fields
  • experience in high-performance computing (cluster or cloud computing, Docker…)

Given the service-oriented nature of the position, we expect our candidate to be capable of following several projects in parallel. We are looking for candidates who are adaptable and able to grow into advanced topics.

The position will be fully hosted at IBU in Bern. You will be part of a highly efficient and motivated team of bioinformaticians, data analysts, data managers and scientific IT specialists. Collaborations and co-authorship in publications can be expected. As a member of the SIB Training Group you will join forces with a dynamic and enthusiastic group of bioinformatics experts embedded in diverse Swiss research institutions. Training activities will be focused in the Bern and surrounding area, however there will be opportunities to teach across Switzerland. We support our team members in their own training and networking.
