Job tasks
The Digital Humanities Plus group of the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics fosters the collaboration between Humanities and Bioinformatics researchers around DH research projects. As European research partner, DH+ participates to the H2020 project DESIR, led by ERIC DARIAH and to the H2020 project OPERAS-P on open access. It also develops projects on publication like the webbook and on New Testament manuscripts, like the SNSF PRIMA project MARK16.

To complement our team we are looking for a software developer. The successful candidate will work within the SNSF PRIMA project on MARK16 (p3.snf.ch/project-179755).  The candidate should have experience in implementing software with modern technologies and web frameworks. This will require the interest and ability to work in an inter-disciplinary environment.
Specifically, tasks may include building the MARK16 virtual research environment, establishing visual software tools for efficient data exploration and long-term project maintenance.  The software developer will work under the leadership of the PI and in collaboration with a humanities post-doc colleague. She/he will enjoy an excellent working in a SIB group in development around DH projects.

This is a 12-month 0.8FTE position, with a possibility of expansion. Employment period is 01.02.2020 – 31.01.2021. Starting date can be discussed.

Profile requirements
  • Master’s degree in in computer science, software engineering or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience
  • UI/UX : Vue.js, d3.js, angular.js
  • Backend : php ; java and scala are a plus
  • Database : MySQL, sqlite ; RDF is a plus
  • Scripting : Bash
  • Reproducibility: git
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Team spirit
  • Good command of English language
Visual design skill is a plus; and experience with TEI XML as well.
