The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is a non-profit organization federating 65 Swiss research and service groups and bringing together some 800 experts in bioinformatics, located all over Switzerland.

The national research initiative Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN) will create a national infrastructure enabling the sharing of patient data for research across Switzerland. SIB will set up and operate the Data Coordination Centre that will coordinate data standardization and enable nation-wide interoperability of health data for research.

Role purpose
The Senior Information Security Architect develops the Institute’s information security and data protection policies and communicates with stakeholders, partners and authorities. In collaboration with the Information Systems Security Officer, she/he implements security measures and procedures, monitors networks and infrastructures, and informs users and management about potential threats.

  • Establish the Institute’s strategy regarding data governance, data privacy and information security according to legal and institutional compliance requirements (Swiss DPA, HFG, European GDPR, ISO/IEC 27001, etc.)
  • Assess security risks and their criticality
  • Develop, implement, and administer information security and risk governance policies/procedures
  • Monitor implementation and compliance with institutional policies
  • Communicate with stakeholders (SIB and SPHN management, CISO of partner institutions such as hospitals, data protection officers, cantonal and federal authorities, SWITCH-CERT)
Required knowledge and experience
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related fields with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • CCFP, CCSP, CISSP-ISSAP, HCISPP or equivalent; Certification in data protection techniques (Cryptography, Monitoring, Data Loss Prevention etc.)
  • In depth knowledge of the Swiss regulatory environment for personal / biomedical data management; solid understanding of current compliance, regulatory and legal requirements relevant to clinical data security and privacy protection
  • Demonstrated track record in developing security architecture for life science applications
  • Demonstrated track record in developing and applying policies and procedures for IT security
  • Demonstrated track record in designing security controls for software application systems and cloud architecture
  • Experience of project planning/reporting and management concepts, methodologies, tools, standards and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Very good command of English

The role will be based in Basel (or alternatively Lausanne / Geneva) and requires regular site visits at all SIB sites.
