Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL

The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain. Approximately 600 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards.

The Research Unit Forest and Soil Ecology investigates the functioning and interactions of vegetation with the environment in natural and urban systems. The Functional Plant Ecology group at the Lausanne site is offering a 6-months position, starting in Mai 2026, as an

Intern in Urban Plant Ecophysiology (f/m/d)

You will be part of the Horizon Europe project FRAIMwork, which aims to improve green wall installations on buildings. Based at WSL Lausanne, you will be participating in field expeditions at multiple sites across Europe. The project in which you will participate focuses on quantifying the carbon sink strength, water-use efficiency, and air-quality impacts of green wall vegetation under contrasting environmental conditions. The objective is to understand how environmental and microclimatic factors, such as light, water availability, and temperature, affect plant functioning, and to provide stakeholders with benchmark data identifying the most resilient and high-performing plant species.
You have a master’s degree in environmental engineering, plant physiology, urban ecology, or a related field. You have the capacity of working independently and in a team in the field and demonstrate good organizational and quantitative skills. A commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary work is essential. Furthermore, a good command of English is required.
